Pete Roome
TREASURER
Club Member since 2008. I have competed at all triathlon distances from super sprint to IRONMAN and more recently enjoyed taking part in cross country. I became Mersey Tri treasurer in 2020 - a role which I have done for other voluntary organisations over the last 20 years.
I see my role as offering advice to the Committee to enable them to make the best use of the resources available. Also, to provide assurance to club members that club funds are used effectively to fulfill the aims described in the club constitution.
Nadine Ellis
WELFARE & SAFEGUARDING OFFICER, and DBS ID Checker
I've always enjoyed running to keep fit and been comfortable riding a bike so my initial reason for joining Mersey Tri was to improve my swimming technique. The coached swim sessions I attended at Everton Park, and more recently at Formby Pool, have really helped to improve my technique and confidence. Before I knew it a friend signed me up for the Deva Divas Triathlon and since then I've completed quite a few sprint triathlons.
I continue to have, support and encouragement from club members. One of the reasons I took the role was to able to give something back to the club whose members and coaches have always supported me. Professionally, I come from a safeguarding background and the opportunity to support the club as the Welfare & Safeguarding Officer is a role I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in to. According to Sport England, Safeguarding in sport is: "the process of protecting children and adults from harm by providing a safe space in which to play sport and be active". I intend to do just that for all Mersey Tri members.

BT Level 2 Triathlon Coach, Level 2 Open Water Swim Coach (12 years of experience), Personal Trainer. First Aider
Joined the club in 1996. Created the Wirral Triathlon which ran successfully 2014-2019 in partnership with Epic Events and I'm proud to say it attracted a huge spectrum of competitors, from first timers to elites representing GB. I’ve represented Mersey Tri on the North West Regional Committee. My philosophy is one of inclusivity and I especially enjoy helping those who 'never thought they could' to overcome their fears and achieve their personal dreams. My first race was Port Erin Triathlon when I was 21. My favourite race and best achievement was IRONMAN Lanzarote because I'd always wanted to achieve this goal.
Simon Hewitt
CHAIRPERSON
I am fascinated by the science of our sport, both the sports themselves, but also in nutrition, strength development and recovery. One final comment - I believe that the 40th year for our club has lots of potential for our members, building on the successes of previous years, with hopefully more coaches and activators, more sessions and even more members!
Your favourite club session - Track! Run speed development is a key area for me in 2025 - and it seems to be working
Favourite discipline - Cycling is without doubt my favourite, its the one I think I am more naturally better at. Road cycling or Time Trialling - enjoy them both.
2025 goals - Build on my swim gains from last year, combine that with a decent cycling ability and run speed development, and I hope that 2025 holds some decent age group performances at IronMan

I have been a member of MT since 2014 and I’m a regular at the Tuesday night Sefton Park sessions. My favourite race I have competed in so far is the Sundowner middle distance triathlon in Allerthorpe.
I am hoping to compete in my first full IRONMAN in Frankfurt in 2021.

18 months club membership. I have enjoyed the MultiTerrain races and fell relays. XCountry… I enjoyed the hot drink and washing machine after! I work in a research lab with viral immunity. I love skiing and Irish dancing. For ten years I delivered the DofE and outdoor activities. I’d love to encourage a broader spectrum of people to try Triathlon. Inspiring others to try new activities by sharing what other members are doing. After someone entered me for a 10k, with 3 weeks to train, I started trail running. I then signed us up for a triathlon, having played water polo, swimming wasn’t problematic, but cycling maybe... I did my first race on a 16kg borrowed MTB!

I joined the club at the start of last year, having come from a cycling and running background, I was looking for a new challenge and figured I might as well give triathlon a go!
Favourite club session - Big fan of the Crosby Lakeside swims. Swimming is my weakest discipline of the 3, but swimming in the Lake and getting exposure to the open water temperatures, as well as practicing sighting and swimming in choppy currents, really helps improve my confidence and ability.
Favourite tri discipline/sport - Cycling 100%, the harder the course profile the more fun for me.
This year I’m looking to target the West Lancs sprint Triathlon and Southport Triathlon.
